There are times while we are on a rush to finish our deadlines when our computer keyboard suddenly cease to operate, instantly throwing us into a fit. "Not now! My boss will kill me if I do not finish this tomorrow morning".

Sometimes we do not really understand. Those keys take quite a beating daily and it is really important to show your keyboard some love every now and then both for the sake of good hygiene and to ensure it functions properly. If you will only take a closer look at those little crevices, you will notice all the dust, hair and all other bits and pieces trapped between them. What is worse, if you love to eat and drink near your computer, it is easy to wind up with sticky surfaces and crumbs buried between the cracks.

Want to get your keyboard in tip top shape? Here are simple step-by-step tips for you to follow.

Like any other computer cleaning, you have to shut down your machine first. Unplug anything that is sticking out from your PC like the mouse, CDs or the USB drives. Then carefully turn the computer keyboard upside down. For a laptop keyboard, turn the entire case. Give it a gentle shake to release any dusty build-up that might be hiding between the keys.

Second, use a can of compressed air to blow off all the other residues around and under all the nooks and crannies. This can of compressed air are readily available in any electronics store. You can also use the hose of a vacuum cleaner as an alternate.

Third, to clean your keyboard put a few drops of isopropyl alcohol on a Q-tip and wipe the edges of your keys. Do not get the cotton swab dripping wet, only slightly damp. You do not want to drip liquid to your keyboard.

And fourth, use a dry lint-free cloth to wipe your computer keyboard. Allow it to air dry for a few minutes. Once you are very sure that the keys are completely dry, you can turn on your PC and off you go!

Before I forget, here is one very neat trick for in-depth cleanings. Get a piece of a Post-It note. Use the sticky part and run it between rows of keys to pick up dust and small debris.

Always follow these simple tips for computer keyboard cleaning and finishing your deadlines on time will no longer be a problem.
